Biography Dr. Dominique Scheffel-Dunand has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Lyon III (France). She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of French Studies at York University. Her area of research is Discourse/Conversation Analysis, Pragmatics, Cross-Cultural Communication, Second Language Acquisition and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). Her current research work is conducted in Psycholinguistics, Conversation Analysis and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) to study the perception/understanding of vocal and visual modes of communication in multimodal interactions with its application to mass media and international communication. Other areas of study include semiotics and the important role of voice and verbal interactions in poetic and media discourses: theatre, cinema, radio and television broadcasting, business communication and political speeches. Dr. Scheffel-Dunand serves on the KMDI Steering Committee and on the Interim Executive Committee of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the U of T. She is organizing the 3rd International Colloquium on ICT-enhanced French Studies: Dialogues across languages and cultures to take place at York University and at the U of T on October 27-29 2005.
