Biography Jim Slotta joined the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning (CTL) Department at OISE/UT as an Associate Professor in 2005 and is serving as the Canada Research Chair in the area of Education and Technology. Previously, Jim directed the web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) project at the University of California, Berkeley (http://wise.berkeley.edu). His research is concerned with technology-enhanced learning and instruction, including supports for teachers who adopt these innovations and for researchers who author them. He has published several papers concerning the WISE technology environment and the potential of such systems for promoting communities of exchange. Jim’s current research emphases include the design of collaborative curricula and the use of hand-held technologies in support of distributed learning. Professor Slotta has also been funded by IBM to investigate the promise of open source and open content for education and is currently developing a new Scalable Architecture for Interactive Learning (SAIL – see http://sail.sourceforge.net). He is also establishing online communities for open source development and exchange amongst researchers in the learning sciences. Keywords |
