Biography

Jodie Jenkinson is a faculty member in Biomedical Communications at the u of T. Her research interests include visual cognition, visual literacy, and the design and evaluation of media-based health and science communication tools. She is the author and instructional designer of The Prostate Centre, a web-based guide for newly-diagnosed oncology patients of the University Health Network, and co-author of BreastMatters, a breast cancer awareness site for patients of the Mt. Sinai Hospital breast screening program. Professor Jenkinson is currently involved in a number of projects including PharmaPlanner, a data-structured retrieval system that generates a pictorial menu for the management of medication, ANATOMIA, an interactive web-based resource to assist medical students with learning complex regions of functional human anatomy, and the Interpretive Visualization Group (IVIS Group) which is an ongoing investigation into the design and utilization of visual media in the medical domain.
